A vital step during your washer’s spin and rinse cycles is when the appliance drains wastewater from the washer basket through the drain hose and out via a standpipe, laundry sink drain line, or an existing installation.
Use this guide to install a washing machine drain hose to ensure your laundry appliance works as it should.
Step 1: Shut Off the Electricity and the Water Supply
Start by turning off the circuit breaker to cut power to the washer, and then turn off the hot and cold water supply.

Step 2: Prepare the Space and the Washer for the Drain Hose Installation

Unplug the washer and then pull it out from the wall to be able to get behind it.
Before moving on to the next step, lay down a towel or two to catch any water that spills or drips from the current hose that you will replace.
Step 3: Remove the Old Hose

Use a screwdriver to remove the clamp that keeps the hose in place at the drain pipe. You will have to unscrew the clamp by turning it counterclockwise until it’s loose enough to pull off. Next, loosen the screws that connect the hose to the back of the washer by turning them counterclockwise. Once the screws are off, carefully pull the hose away from the appliance.
Step 4: Cut the New Hose
Measure the distance from the washer’s connectors to the drain pipe. Using a tape measure, mark the length on the hose. If it is too long, cut some of the hose with a cutting tool. Scissors can often do the trick.
Step 5: Install the Drain Hose

To install the new drain hose, fit it into the connectors on the back of the washer. Manually tighten the screws to secure it in position. Next, fit the other end of the hose into the wall drain pipe and tighten it by turning the clamp.
Step 6: Test to See if the New Drain Hose Works

Wash a load of laundry and monitor that no water is leaking out of the new drain hose. If it is, then the clamp or one of the connectors might need tightening. If everything is tight as needed, then review each step to see if you made a mistake.
If the washer cleans the load of laundry without any issues, then you have successfully installed a new drain hose.
